XLVII. Commercial Break: Pisay Parol and Philippine Madrigals!

Christmas is less than a month away, so let's take a break from frequently aesthetically-challenging Holy Week and Akyat-Bahay activities to do some Christmas shopping.  And I have just the perfect gift suggestions for your family.

My high school batch (Philippine Science High School 1982) is raising funds for our Natatanging Guro Fund (NGF) -- to provide honoraria and teaching chairs for our exceptionally good (not to mention patient) teachers in this school.

One of our NGF fund-raising projects is the sale of Pisay Parols. They come in six beautiful designs (with prices ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 3,500), and here is just a sampler:

In addition, on Tuesday 18 December 2007, at the CCP Main Theater, our high school batch will also sponsor a special concert of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, entitled "Bravissimo -- A Tribute to Excellence."

The Madz, as they are affectionately called by fans, recently won the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Arrezzo, Italy last August. A two-time winner of this prestigious competition, they are the only choir in the world to have ever achieved this feat since the inception of the Grand Prix in 1989.

This concert event will be their only gala performance this December; so if you are long-time fans, or simply like good music, why not join my batchmates and me at the CCP that evening?
